Wildlife

The abundant water, plant life and forests in Tillamook County provide habitat for a large variety of wildlife. In addition to the hundreds of species of birds and fish, there is a very large elk population, along with deer, cougar, bobcats, foxes, bear and all manner of small mammals. For information, go to the Oregon Department of Fish and Game website.

The Oregon Coast National Wildlife Refuge Complex comprises six National Wildlife Refuges protecting a variety of coastal habitats. Three of these are in Tillamook County: Cape Meares, Three Arch Rock and Nestucca Bay. At Cape Meares, there is a cliff habitat for a nesting pair of Peregrine Falcons. Nestucca Bay Natural Wildlife Refuge provides wintering habitat for the only coastal population of Dusky Canada geese and the entire population of Semidi Islands Aleutian Canada geese.
